Man Utd news: Robbie Savage identifies games that could cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job | Football | Sport

Recent defeats to Cardiff and Crystal Palace could end up coming back to haunt Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That’s the view of Premier League pundit Robbie Savage, who admits the “warning signs are there” for Solskjaer.

Manchester United won their opening game of the season but have only picked up two points since.

They were beaten at home by Crystal Palace having suffered the same fate against Cardiff at the back-end of last season.

The Red Devils face Leicester on Saturday as they look to get this campaign back on track.

But Savage has warned Solskjaer that the two home defeats could end up costing him his job if things don’t change quickly.

Writing for the Mirror, Savage commented: “The phone-in caller who said ‘Ole must go’ at Manchester United, less than a month into the season, needs to pipe down and give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance.

“But the warning signs are there – just three wins in the last 16 games in all competitions, including home defeats by Cardiff and Crystal Palace.”

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton in their last game despite the Saints playing with ten men for 20 minutes.

Boss Solskjaer has been vocal on United’s struggles this season, claiming his side must be more clinical.

“We have a clear plan and we believe in the players and believe in the way we do things,” the Norwegian said.

“You can say it’s long-term but we deserved to win the last three games as well.

“And the one thing you cannot control in football is results and outcomes. You can control the effort, attitude, what we’re doing in training.

“We’re on the right track, we’re working and, as I said to the boys, we need to learn to win these games.

“Last week’s game, Wolverhampton game, we need to learn that, I know we’re a young team but that’s not an excuse, there’s plenty of quality.

“I don’t know how many shots we’ve had today and in the last game against Palace but it’s a matter of taking them chances and that’s what football is all about, getting it inside the posts.

“But we’ll get there, we’re working on it, and so delighted for Dan [James] with his strike again, he’s had a fantastic impact since he’s come and he can give us quality in both ways of football.”
